Our Own Miracle

If you read my previous post, you know my husband was in very critical condition and it looked bad for him.

He has now, miraculously, returned to full heart function, full kidney and liver function. He was extubated on my 40th birthday and, while very confused and groggy from the Propofol sedation, he was still himself and had all his memory and brain function intact.

He was transferred to a bigger research hospital in St. Louis the day after being extubated. He has recovered to such a point that as I write this he is sitting in a chair watching movies on the iPad. He is on room air with 100% blood oxygen - amazing. He walked today and started solid foods. He even has sat up in a chair for 8 hours.

We await his very necessary surgery in a weeks time to remove the root problem, a pheochromocytoma. They hope to have his strength back by then and be able to release him 3 days after surgery.

He will need more physical therapy to gain more strength. He is on track with occupational therapy. He needs a little therapy for some spatial relationship problems. The prescribed therapy
is computer games. Seriously? Only he could go through all of this and come out with games as therapy.

We spend a lot of time just sitting in his room working on his various therapies. Some of Amber's curriculum for next year arrived and I have been trying to review it and lesson plan while I sit with Fred.

Amber has been with my parents most of everyday. She is having a fun summer trip to Grandma and Grandpa's without having to leave Mommy entirely. She has been a real trooper but is about ready for this to be over. She has not seen her dad since May 12th.

We give thanks to God for returning Fred to us. He has answered so many prayers. We are also so thankful for all the friends who have helped us and prayed. We have had so much support from wonderfully kind people.

Please continue to pray for my husband's recovery and a successful and safe surgery on June 1st.

    1. Thanks for the prayers. It is still hard to believe we are actually going through this. The extreme kindness and generousity of people has astounded me. My thank you card list is long and I have no words right now to express what I feel. I'm waiting for Fred to come home and sign the thank yous anyway.

Soon it will be but a memory and we will all appreciate our time together more.
