End of Semester

This was the last week of the co-op semester, which means it was the last week for three out of Amber's five classes. She finished
  • Speech I - earned 1/2 credit
  • 3-D Art - hours went toward her many Fine Arts credits
  • Four Gospels Bible Study - hours went toward a Religion elective credit.
On going into next semester are Drama and Health class.  Next semester Amber will continue with another Bible Study and start two new classes: Greek Mythology and Forensic Science.  I'm teaching the forensics class and it will also be worth 1/2 credit of laboratory science! We might forego science at home once botany is complete. I'll see.

The only at home book work Amber did, not related to her co-op classes, was math. She is now only two review lessons away from completing Algebra 2! We officially start Geometry in January (yes, we went out of the standard order. She did Algebra 1 and 2 back to back, next is geometry, then Pre-calc with Trig, and Calculus).

This coming week is absolutely packed with fun Christmas activities and traditions, plus many perfectly timed medical appointments. She's falling apart this Winter.

Now a few pictures of what we've been doing this past week instead of formal school work.

Glass blowing class - making an ornament
Ready for Christmas shopping and a Christmas party
Knitting while watching TV & her art project from co-op 3-D art class: wire frame, paper mache, other stuff I don't remember, paint, and texture.

PT visit, and lunch out with just Mom. Some days we need a little pick-me-up.

  1. I always enjoy your posts. She looks so very happy and you're doing a wonderful job. I was wondering how doing Algebra 1 and 2 back to back worked for you as we're thinking of doing the same.

    1. Thanks! She is enjoying her December this year.

It worked well for Amber to take algebra 1 and 2 back to back. Algebra 2 built right on the topics from 1, and there was no need to relearn or review the algebra 1 course.

I'm hoping that pre-calc goes well in a year, but expect to review algebra a little bit.

  2. You've got a very interesting co-op with an intriguing selection of classes! Love the glass-blown ornament she made. We visited a glass-blowing studio with our homeschool group several years ago and each of the students got to make a glass marble. One of our best field trips! Thanks for sharing on Homeschool Highlights!
