Holiday Break (Blogging through the Alphabet - H)

We are officially on our holiday break!

This year it has been a hard earned break and we weren't quite finished with our lessons by the appointed date. It's a yearly struggle for me to determine when is the best stopping point to take a break. I'm a list maker and have extreme difficulty not checking off every item on my list.

In reality I make it much harder than it needs to be, especially this year. We are only taking two measly weeks off from school. In the past we've taken a longer combined Christmas / New Year / birthday break that totaled up to 4-6 weeks, depending on the year.

Although our December has been assuredly more relaxed than months like August and September, we did work diligently during our at-home days while enjoying many holiday activities. Yet I was still anxious over wrapping up each subject before break. I was stressing Amber with my lofty goals too.

December fun! Parties, performances, and cookie baking with Grandma.
I finally came to a realization this past weekend: we don't have to wrap every subject up to take a break. I know, it's kinda obvious but not to the list maker who felt behind.

Amber won't forget all she has studied over a two week break. I won't be as busy and rushed as I am now and more able to participate in my portion of the lessons in two weeks. Most importantly, Amber hopefully will be recharged for a new semester of school instead of her current state of mental and physical exhaustion.

So we did not finish the discussion for literature and did not wrap up the end of her German unit. That's all ok too. We will review as needed and go forward again on January 4th.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!
