Low Fructose Products

Fructose Malabsorption is such an individualized condition. What is well tolerated by one person could be entirely unacceptable to another.  Then there are the issues of additional allergies or sensitivities.  Amber is mildly gluten intolerant on top of being very sensitive to the fructans in wheat.  She currently appears to have trouble with lactose too.  Others with FM may not have those same issues.

This is a list of products that we have tested with Amber and found to cause no adverse reaction.   There are more items on my Pinterest Fructmal Products page, but some of those are products that have been recommended to me and we have not actually tried them with Amber.

  • Thorne Research Children's Basic Nutrients Vitamins - We use 3 per day on the recommendation of Amber's RD.  We order ours from Amazon with free Prime shipping.
  • Silk Unsweetened Original Almond Milk - Amber has failed food trials of all other variations of Almond Milk. We use it exclusively for baking, cooking, and drinking.  I do add a tiny amount of pure stevia extract and pure vanilla when drinking.
  • Snyder's of Hanover Gluten Free Pretzel Twists - Amber also loves their pretzel sticks.  There is something about twists though that just make it taste better.
  • Cape Cod Waffle Cut Sea Salt Chips - This is a random find at the store and has been a life saver for snacks. It has just three ingredients: potato, canola oil, & salt.
  • Smucker's Natural Creamy Peanut Butter - Amber prefers this brand of natural peanut butter.  Yes we have to stir it and that irritates Amber.  She much prefers the whipped Skippy with sugar, however she reacts to it.  Amber also reacts to crunchy peanutbutter.  But this has a great taste and works well for eating on crackers, bread and in baking.
  • Pirate's Booty Aged White Cheddar Rice & Corn Puffs - Amber loved this when she was first diagnosed, but since we didn't have a lot that she tolerated she got tired of it. We still keep it around for quick snacks.
  • Annie's Gluten Free Rice Shells with White Cheddar - Amber loves this version of mac and cheese.  She doesn't do as well with Annie's GF Microwave Cheddar Mac & Cheese.  We aren't sure why or if it is a fluke.
  • Koolaid Powdered Unsweetened Packets - not every flavor, but many work for Amber. We check the ingredients every time on every flavor we buy. We use this so Amber has some flavor and something appealing for her daily Miralax. Depending on if Amber needs calories, I mix up a pitcher with 1/4 teaspoon pure stevia extract (no calories), or with 1/3 cup pure cane sugar and 2/3 cup powdered dextrose.
  • Now Foods Better Stevia - Organic pure stevia extract.  Between the two of us we do not tolerate any of the stevia blends, but this works well for us.
  • Now Dextrose Powder - This is what we use in place of sugar in baking and on toast.  I get it from Amazon with free Prime shipping. There are other places to get powdered dextrose, but this is the most convenient for me.
  • Anthony's Almonds Blanched Almond Flour - I know other people online recommend other brands, but this one has free shipping with Amazon Prime and it has worked well for Amber. We have not had any issues with the shipping, the freshness or the taste.
  • McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract - Amber cannot have imitation vanilla, but who wants that anyway.  I don't even remember who recommended this to me, but Amber has done fine with it and given the amount we go through I'm glad I found a decent price online.  Again, it has Amazon Prime shipping.
